What does each line type mean?
Fixed Line - A traditional wired number tied to a physical copper or fiber line. Typically associated with a specific address.
Mobile - A wireless/cellular number. Assigned to a mobile carrier like AT&T Wireless, T-Mobile, or Verizon Wireless.
VoIP - Voice over IP. The number is served by an internet-based carrier (e.g., RingCentral, Vonage, Telnyx). These numbers can be anywhere geographically.
Fixed Line or Mobile - The carrier database cannot distinguish whether the number is a fixed line or mobile. Common in some regions.
Toll-Free - A number in the 800/888/877/866/855/844/833 range. Charges are billed to the number owner, not the caller.
Premium Rate - A number that charges the caller an above-normal rate, typically for paid services or information lines.
Shared Cost - A number where the cost of the call is split between the caller and the number owner.
Personal Number - A number assigned to a person rather than a location, allowing calls to follow the user across devices.
UAN - Universal Access Number. A single national number that routes to different destinations based on the caller's location.

Can you tell whether a phone number is VoIP?+
Yes. The lookup returns a line type for every number, and VoIP is one of the values. A VoIP result means the number is served by an internet-based carrier such as Telnyx, Vonage, or RingCentral rather than a traditional wireline or wireless carrier. VoIP numbers carry no reliable geographic meaning: the area code tells you where the number was issued, not where the phone is.
How do I check whether a phone number has been ported?+
The lookup reads live LRN (Location Routing Number) and SPID (Service Provider ID) records, so it reports the carrier serving the number right now rather than the carrier that originally issued it. When those differ, the number has been ported. This is the fastest way to confirm a port completed, or to work out why calls are still routing to the old provider.
Is the carrier lookup really free?+
Yes, and no card or sign-up is required. Each lookup queries a paid carrier data source, so anonymous use is capped at 2 lookups per 72 hours. A free account raises that to 5. There is also a site-wide daily ceiling, so a lookup can occasionally be deferred to the next day at times of heavy use.
