Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 26, 2026. Last updated: August 2, 2026.
VoIP Test ("we," "us," "our") operates the website at voiptest.com. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Registration forms: Name, email address, company name (optional), and your role. This is collected when you register for tool access, beta signups, or email notifications.
- Phone numbers: Phone numbers you submit to the carrier lookup tool are processed to retrieve carrier information and are logged in our database to enforce usage limits.
- Test configuration: When you run a VoIP quality test, you provide the purpose of the test, your connection type (wired, wifi), and any symptoms you are experiencing (choppy audio, one-way audio, dropped calls, etc.).
- Uploaded files: If you use the PCAP Analyzer or SIP Call Stories tools, you upload packet capture files from your network to our servers for processing. It is your responsibility to ensure that uploaded files do not contain sensitive audio packets or other confidential content before uploading.
Information collected automatically
- IP address: Recorded with every form submission, tool usage, and test session to enforce rate limits and prevent abuse. Your IP address may also be used to derive publicly available information such as your approximate geographic location and internet service provider (ISP) name, which can be relevant to diagnosing VoIP quality issues.
- Browser and device information: Your browser's User-Agent string (which includes browser name, version, and operating system) is recorded with test sessions. This helps us understand the testing environment and diagnose browser-specific issues.
- Browser storage: We use localStorage to store your color theme preference. No tracking cookies are set by our application.
VoIP test traffic data
When you run a VoIP quality test, the following data is collected and stored as part of your test results:
- Network performance metrics: Jitter (mean, 95th percentile, and maximum), packet loss rate and pattern (random, bursty, or periodic), round-trip latency, and calculated bandwidth.
- Quality scores: Mean Opinion Score (MOS) and R-factor calculated using the ITU-T G.107 E-model, along with quality ratings over the duration of the test.
- Per-packet data: Individual packet fate tracking (whether each packet was delivered, lost, or arrived late) and per-packet jitter and delay measurements.
- Connection statistics: Samples collected approximately once per second during the test, including packets sent and received, bytes transferred, codec in use, and connection candidate information. This data may include network interface details, which can reveal local IP addresses and network topology information.
- Audio reconstruction: A demonstration audio sample may be generated showing how your network conditions affect voice quality. This is derived from a synthetic reference signal, not from any live audio capture.
- Diagnostic analysis: Jitter buffer simulations, loss pattern classification, the throughput of the test’s own traffic, and how many simultaneous calls the test ran are calculated from the raw test data and stored with your results. Per-call breakdowns for a concurrent run are shown to you in the browser but are not stored.
ISP and network information
Your public IP address is a standard part of every internet connection. From this address, we may derive publicly available information including:
- Internet service provider (ISP) name
- Approximate geographic location (city/region level)
- Autonomous system number (ASN) and network operator
This information is publicly discoverable for any IP address and is used to provide context in test results. For example, knowing your ISP helps diagnose whether quality issues are related to your provider's network. Test results that you share via a share link may include this derived information.
Packet capture and SIP analysis
The PCAP Analyzer and SIP Call Stories tools require you to upload packet capture files to our servers for processing. These files may contain sensitive information including:
- Source and destination IP addresses and port numbers
- SIP signaling messages (caller and callee identities, phone numbers, SIP URIs)
- SIP authentication headers
- Codec negotiation details
- Network routing information (SIP Via headers, proxy addresses)
- Device and platform identification (User-Agent strings)
- Audio content encoded in RTP media packets
It is not possible to fully sanitize a packet capture file in the browser. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any files you upload do not contain sensitive audio packets or other confidential content that you do not wish to share with us.
The two tools handle uploads differently, and the difference matters:
- SIP Call Stories: Your file is processed entirely in memory during the request that uploads it. Only SIP signaling packets are extracted; all other traffic, including RTP audio, is discarded without being examined. The file is never written to disk, never queued, and no part of it or its analysis is stored after the response is returned to your browser.
- PCAP Analyzer: Because analysis runs as a background job, your uploaded file is placed in our processing queue and is held there until the job is cleared automatically — 24 hours for jobs that complete, 7 days for jobs that fail (a longer window so failures can be diagnosed). It is then permanently deleted. The analysis results — summary metrics, stream timelines, and the written report — are stored against your account so you can revisit them, but the capture file itself is not retained beyond the queue window described above.
We will not sell or otherwise share any information obtained from uploaded capture files. We may collect anonymized usage data from uploaded files, which may be linked to your account for analytics related to platform usage.
Media (audio) reconstruction
Packet captures that include RTP media carry the actual audio of the calls they recorded. We do not currently offer any feature that decodes that audio, and none of our tools reconstruct call audio today. If we introduce such a feature on a premium plan, the following terms will apply to it:
- It will run only on calls you explicitly select, never automatically across an entire capture.
- Audio will be decoded in memory for that request only, returned to you, and never written to disk, logged, or retained by us.
- We will not use reconstructed audio to train models, and we will not share it with third parties.
Encrypted media (SRTP) cannot be reconstructed at all and will be reported as such rather than decoded.
Your responsibility for captured conversations
A packet capture containing RTP media is a recording of a conversation. Recording laws vary by jurisdiction, and many require the consent of one or all parties. By uploading a capture you confirm that you are lawfully in possession of it and are permitted to process its contents, including any audio it contains. This is particularly important when the capture includes traffic belonging to other users, employees, or customers on your network. We cannot assess the lawfulness of a capture and rely on your confirmation.
Third-party services
We use third-party service providers to operate parts of the platform, including authentication, bot protection, and data lookups. These providers may process limited data (such as your email address, browser metadata, or phone numbers you submit) in order to deliver their services. We select providers that maintain their own privacy and security standards.
We do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Third-party providers only receive the minimum data necessary to perform the specific service they provide to us. This category expressly excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent, which is never shared with any third party or affiliate for any purpose — see the section on text message communications below.
How we use your information
- Provide services: Process carrier lookups, run VoIP quality tests, generate diagnostic reports, authenticate tool access, and deliver test results.
- Enforce limits: Track usage per IP address to enforce rate limits and prevent abuse of free tools.
- Share test results: When you share a test report via its unique link, the recipient can view the full test results including quality metrics, network performance data, and any ISP information derived from your IP address.
- Product updates: Send you emails about new features, tool launches, and product updates, where you have opted in. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by replying "unsubscribe" or using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Notifications you request: If we introduce alert notifications and you opt in, deliver those alerts by email or text message. See the sections on email and text message communications below.
- Improve the platform: Aggregate, anonymized usage patterns help us understand which tools are used and how to improve them.
Test result sharing
Each VoIP test session generates a unique, unguessable share link. Anyone with this link can view the full test results, including quality metrics, network performance data, diagnostic analysis, and ISP information derived from your IP address.
Share links are active for the retention period of the test data (typically 30 days for free accounts; each view of a report resets this period, so a link that is still being viewed stays active). You control who receives the link. We do not publish or index share links.
Email communications
Our signup forms include a consent checkbox. By checking it you consent to receive product-related emails from VoIP Test: new tool announcements, feature launches, and platform updates. Consent is not a condition of using any tool on this site, and we do not send marketing email to addresses that have not opted in.
Separately from marketing, we may send transactional email you cannot opt out of while your account is open — for example sign-in verification, security notices, and messages about a job you asked us to run. These are required to operate the service.
We will never sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe mechanism. You can also request removal by emailing [email protected]. We honor all opt-out requests within 10 business days, as required by CAN-SPAM.
Text message (SMS) communications
We do not currently operate an SMS program and do not send text messages. We collect phone numbers only through the Carrier Lookup tool, where they are used to perform the lookup you requested and to enforce usage limits — never to contact you. The terms below govern any SMS program we may introduce in the future, such as alert notifications for premium accounts.
Consent and enrollment
If we offer SMS, enrollment will always require your express opt-in through a dedicated checkbox or keyword — separate from email consent, and never bundled into it. Consent to receive text messages will never be a condition of purchasing anything or of using any tool on this site. You must be the subscriber of the mobile number you enroll, or be authorized by the subscriber to enroll it.
Message types and frequency
Messages would be limited to service and account notifications you have asked for — for example alerts when a scheduled test detects a quality problem, or notice that a long-running analysis has finished. Message frequency varies and depends on the alerts you configure. Message and data rates may apply, according to your plan with your mobile carrier.
Opting out and getting help
You can cancel at any time by replying STOP to any message. We will send a single confirmation and then stop sending messages to that number. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at [email protected]. Opting out of text messages does not affect your account, your email preferences, or your access to any tool.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is subject to your carrier's network and your device.
Mobile information is never shared
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the data-sharing categories described elsewhere in this policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Mobile opt-in data is used solely to deliver the messages you asked for.
Data retention
- Registration data: Retained until you request deletion or the account is inactive for 24 months.
- Lookup usage records: IP address and phone number lookup logs are retained for 90 days for rate-limiting and abuse prevention, then permanently deleted.
- Test session data: VoIP test results, network performance metrics, per-packet data, connection statistics, audio reconstructions, and diagnostic analyses are retained for 30 days after the report was last viewed (typical for free accounts). After expiry, all test data is permanently deleted.
- Uploaded files (SIP Call Stories): Not retained at all. The capture is processed in memory during the upload request and discarded when the response is sent.
- Uploaded files (PCAP Analyzer): Held in the processing queue for 24 hours after the job completes, or 7 days if the job failed, then permanently deleted. The derived analysis (summary metrics, timelines, and report) is stored with your account until you delete it or the account is closed.
Data security
Data is stored on infrastructure we control. All connections to the site are encrypted via TLS. We do not store passwords. Authentication is handled by a third-party provider that maintains its own security standards. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data. We will remove your registration record, lookup logs, test sessions, and any associated data.
- Opt out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time, and from any text messages by replying STOP.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
